OPEN STUDIO JULIEN SAUDUBRAY

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

From 14/01/2021 to 16/01/2021

Fondation CAB is pleased to introduce Julien Saudubray (b. 1985, Paris) as our 11th artist-in-residence.

Saudubray’s practice is rooted in an extensive experimentation with the parameters that define painting as an autonomous artistic medium. Instead of accepting the rigid notions, juxtapositions and categorisations that make up the canon of painting, his work is fuelled by an interest in mixing up abstraction, figuration as well as the objecthood of painting. In doing so, he considers himself to be an artist, approaching the concept of painting from a distance, rather than a painter pur sang.

His interest lies in the durational process of image-making, rather than the generated image itself. In dissociating himself from his technique, he interprets his technique as a set of mechanical gestures: the seemingly disembodied experience of painting from left to right on a predefined format is something Saudubray observes while it’s occurring.

Julien Saudubray will be staying with us till mid-January 2021.
Please get in touch with Evelyn Simons at evelyn@fondationcab.com should you be interested in a studio visit with the artist.
