EDOUARD CABAY

SCORE FOR 50 HANDS

12/05/2026

Édouard Cabay proposes a collective drawing performance bringing together around fifty participants invited to draw simultaneously. Their gestures are punctuated by a metronome for a set duration, before their sheets are assembled to form a single composition.

This simple device establishes a fertile tension between rule and freedom: each individual gesture follows a precise protocol while retaining its irreducible singularity. In a conceptual lineage close to instructional practices, drawing is no longer merely the expression of an isolated subjectivity, but the result of a shared system where execution is distributed across multiple bodies. The work is thus constructed through others.
The project also engages in a reflection on the diversity of graphic signatures. Drawing—a medium that is both universal and deeply intimate—becomes here a field for observing differences: rhythms, pressures, hesitations, styles. The final assembly does not seek to homogenize these discrepancies but, on the contrary, allows them to coexist in a common image, revealing the traces of a group in all its plurality.
Between score and improvisation, control and dispersion, the performance gives shape to a sensitive mapping of the collective. Each iteration is anchored in its context, allowing a situated portrait to emerge—an image traversed by the singularities of those who compose it.

The event runs from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the performance activated from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. It is also possible to take part as a participant by contacting the artist directly at: edouardcabay@gmail.com.
