Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence is pleased to present its eleventh artist in residence, José Heerkens (b. 1950, Dinther, Holland).
His work is non-objective and non-narrative. Every detail and shade of color matters, and the interplay of these elements creates a space where intimacy and expansiveness, movement and stillness, heaviness and lightness coexist. Defining color as space has become a central theme. Horizontal and vertical lines structure rhythm and form: verticality appears subtly, while horizontality expands the painting’s space. The materiality and color of pure linen are essential, and unpainted areas act like pauses in a musical score. We look forward to welcoming you to the Open Studio on Saturday, February 21 from 4 to 6 pm, 2026, at the Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence to meet the artist and discover the results of his two-month residency.
