Fondation CAB Saint-Paul de Vence is pleased to present its 7th artist-in-residency, Esther Tielemans (Dutch, b.1976) on the 8 March for her open studio.
Esther Tielemans investigates shape, color and matter. Having once been a painter of landscapes, nowadays her work itself has become the landscape. Bursting with color, they hang from walls, lie on the ground or are suspended in mid-air. The glossy epoxy surfaces reflect their surroundings and the viewer. Through transparent touches of paint they appear to be constantly illuminated by beams of light. They are paintings, but always conversing with the space they inhabit.
Tielemans studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in the Netherlands. Among other prizes, she won the Royal Award for Modern Painting and the Prix de Rome. Her work has been exhibited (inter)nationally and is held in various collections, among which in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Caldic Collection and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, all of them in the Netherlands. In 2019 she was artist in residence with the ISCP in New York.
