Fondation CAB Saint Paul de Vence is pleased to present its artist-in-residence Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard
A multidisciplinary artist and graduate of ESAG Penninghen in Paris, Gaultier Rimbault-Joffard develops a practice at the intersection of painting, sculpture and design. His work is driven by an ongoing exploration of light and materiality, examining the relationships between surface, perception and space.
Through a meticulous approach to colour and texture, he investigates the intrinsic qualities of materials and their ability to absorb, reflect and diffuse light. By layering surfaces, playing with contrasts and creating subtle gradients, he brings out their physical characteristics and expressive potential. Material becomes a field of experimentation in its own right, where shifting light and changing perceptions play an essential role in the way each work is experienced.
This exploration extends into furniture and sculptural objects, where wood, metal and composite materials are selected and shaped for their distinctive physical and visual properties. Moving fluidly between art and design, his creations explore the interplay of material, form and light, while questioning our relationship with objects and their surroundings. Each piece offers a sensory and ever-changing experience, shaped by light conditions, spatial context and the viewer’s point of view.
