Fondation CAB Brussels is pleased to present its artist-in-residence from April 7, 2026, Hadrien Loumaye (b. 1999, Brussels), who lives and works in Brussels.
Loumaye graduated with an MFA in Painting from ENSAV La Cambre in 2023 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Art and Art Sciences at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, where his research focuses on the serial production of artworks. His practice unfolds in close dialogue between theoretical reflection and painterly experimentation.
His work explores the interaction between gesture, color, and space. Situated between abstract expressionism and minimalism, his modular paintings—often conceived as diptychs or quadriptychs—challenge the limits of the pictorial surface, creating a dynamic exchange between presence and absence. Built through successive transparent layers, his faux-monochrome canvases develop atmospheric depth, where each gesture leaves a visible trace of the creative process.
Balancing abstraction and landscape evocation, his compositions suggest fragments of memory in which color becomes the fleeting imprint of a dissolving terrain. Beyond painting, Loumaye extends his practice to in situ interventions, photography, and ceramics, exploring materiality and spatial perception through an intuitive and tactile approach.
